Finally dealing with November

Why am I working on November? I have no idea! I have 4 unfinished BJP projects and of those 4, my November BJP has been whispering to me. Finally!
In November I had picked this fabric for the background, which I created
based on an article from Quilting Arts magazine on painting with tissue paper (Issue # 22 Summer 2006). The colour was created by placing squares and strips of tissue paper on white fabric and adding water...no paint. I used one of my favorite Sulky threads for the quilting. The quilting design was inspired by sketches I made in November - straight lines and squares, based on how the fabric had been created, and on how I felt that month...boxed in....trapped.
I think that I have procrastinated this piece for so long because, besides feeling totally overwhelmed in November, and not having time to work on it, it is harder for me to now embrace it and feel drawn to working this piece that symbolizes an emotional and intense time for our family. I'd rather distance myself from it now. But I won't...it's whispering to me and I'm listening.
I am starting to bead the boxes. I do think that the disadvantage of working on this now versus in November is that my colour choices are different. If I would've actually beaded it in November, the beads would have been darker I'm sure. I had pulled out the brown and purple beads to go with this one, but now I find more bright pinky purples jumping into the mix. Hmmm...

The pinkier purples are probably due to your feeling better now than back in November. It would be interesting to know if the fabric really is fading. I don't know how fast the color from tissue paper would be but it's best to find out on a small project than to put pieces into a large one and have it fade real fast (I find a lot of fabrics fade though).

Maybe you were not ready to deal with the emotions that time triggered in you. Sometimes it's safer to distance ourselves from those painful times until we are strong enough to deal with them. I like what you are doing here. Perhaps the color change indicates it is okay to face those feelings now....Just a thought...

Oh how I can relate! I'm glad to see someone else who works out of order. My October page will be a reflection of that month and it was a sad one. Maybe now I'll be able to work on it. Thanks for your honesty.
